Bidra med feedbackSix of us stopped by for a few drinks during a walk from Middleham. We received a warm welcome from the very friendly staff and enjoyed some excellent pints of Timothy Taylor's Landlord. We couldn't help but feel a bit envious watching the table next to us being served delicious pies, sausages, fish and chips, even though we had only planned to stop for drinks. The bar lady informed us that the kitchen was already busy with bookings for a wake, so we couldn't order lunch. Overall, it was a truly delightful little pub!
We stayed overnight in our motorhome and had a great experience at this restaurant. They had a good selection of beers, delicious food, and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely be returning in the future.
My reservation was lost. Despite their mistake, I was not given much attention. I felt inconvenienced when I was reluctantly seated at a dirty and dark corner table with a time limit. The Sunday roast was terrible, with the vegetables not being as fresh as the staff claimed. The beef was extremely thin, pink, and oozing with blood. The potatoes were so hard that a knife couldn't cut through them, and the Yorkshire pudding was soggy and squashed in with the cauliflower cheese. The plate and food were both cold. Eventually, I was able to ask for hot gravy, but it wasn't worth complaining as the staff were too busy chatting with locals at the bar. This restaurant is run by amateurs. I decided to cancel my booking for a family meal the following week. The place is dirty, the staff are scruffy, the food is lousy, and the atmosphere is unfriendly. As a local, I would advise not bothering to eat here.
We have been coming to this pub since 2009 and have never had a bad meal…the food was always delicious However, new owners have taken over and this was the first time we have visited since. On our arrival we noticed all the tables had been reserved barring one in the corner which we promptly sat at as lots of other people were coming in. We explained to the girl behind the bar that we’d been trying to phone all morning to book a table but there was no answer. She just shrugged her shoulders and didn’t really explain why, however we heard them chatting amongst themselves and the word hangover was mentioned..say no more! We’d just sat down when one of the bar staff walked over and plonked a reserved sign in front of us.. we were then told there was a table near the fire that was spare. It was a tiny table right next to the entrance to the dining room so people were walking past constantly which I didn’t like as we had our two small poodles with us. My chair was directly next to the fire.. which I’m pleased to say was not roaring or I’d have roasted! My partners food arrived first, he’d ordered the roast beef dinner which looked okay, my steak pie arrived about 5 minutes later. It was awful the veg, though nicely cooked was stone cold.. the chips were pale limp and greasy and the pie.. well, the pastry was the thinest I’d ever seen and it was barely cooked on the top and completely raw at the bottom, the steak inside was bland, fatty and tasteless in a pale watery gravy much like what was in the jug on the side of my plate. My partner said his beef was thin as paper, plus his veggies, what little he got were cold too. Such a disappointment, we used to absolutely love this pub, but we won’t be returning nor would I recommend it to anyone else
Been here many times over the years to enjoy their home cooking and particularly their homemade steak pies. This seems to have now stopped and been replaced with a tasteless shop bought tin foil pie and smaller portions. Such a shame. From a wonderful place to come and eat, to a standard pub meal, probably won't be back.
