Tio's Tacos - Riverside

The nopales at Tio's remind me of home. It is one of the few places that serves nopales. Their vegan menu includes options such as Nopales Tacos, Nopales Tostada, Calabacita Tacos, Papa Tacos, Papa Sopes, Veggie Tofu Fajitas, and other items with vegetarian choices. The salsa bar offers a variety of red and green chile. However, what really impresses me are their refreshing agua frescas, perfect for a hot day. I would have given this place five stars, but they also serve meat, so I'll give it four stars. If you find yourself in Riverside, I highly recommend stopping by to enjoy the food and ambiance.

My omnivore husband was craving a chicken burrito, so I searched for a restaurant that could accommodate both of us. We decided to try Tio's, where I noticed a note under the Vegan section stating (Vegetarian option Not Vegan). I inquired about the tofu fajitas, asking if they were vegetarian or vegan. The server was unsure and had to ask someone else. I ended up ordering the potato tacos while my husband ordered a chicken burrito supreme. The service was acceptable, but the food was mediocre and lacked flavor. It was a disappointing experience and we will not be returning.

There is a full menu available for non-vegans, but only a small vegan menu for us. I decided to try the Tosada de Nopales, which was a bit plain on its own. However, they have a delicious self-serve salsa bar that I used to add some flavor. The Cali Mex decor and the quirky artwork by Martin Sánchez created a unique and memorable dining experience. #Veganuary.

Today we went to Tio's Tacos and I love that they have a dedicated vegan menu right next to their regular menu. They offer several options but I got there vegan Tacos de Papa. They were so delicious and filling. It's always nice when an establishment has their vegan menu right out front and center so you don't have to wonder how they feel about it.

The decor at this restaurant is incredible, creating a space where you can truly appreciate the art. While the food has been inconsistent, the Agua frescas are absolutely fantastic.
