Bidra med feedbackIt was absolutely disgusting. Don't go here if you expect a nice sit-down experience. You have to walk to the counter to order your food, and you must bus your own plates afterwards. My brisket didn't even taste like brisket. If i knew how to get rid of the charge on my card, I'd definitely do it.
If this was our first time here, it would have been a 1. It’s gotten progressively worse over the last 6 months. After today’s visit, we won’t be back. The sides and appetizer were inedible. The pickle spears are $9.99 and they were long slivers of what appeared to be a pickle. The other half of were just breading, not to mention they were so greasy and oily it left a puddle in the basket. The smoked potatoes were unrecognizable. We were astounded they actually served it and didn’t throw it away. The smoked sweet potatoes were terrible also. All the food had to be days old. It was bad. It would have been better watching the $56.00 we spent catch on fire.
I first tried Due South BBQ at their Christiansburg, VA location and am saddened to hear that that location has closed. You can read more about the closing through WSLS's following article: wsls.com/news/local/2023…. I do not like seeing local businesses that are worthwhile close. That being said, it is great that the Roanoke, VA location is still open. While their bbq is not bad, their Baby Back Ribs are the standout selection. The meat is tender and the rib glaze they brush them with is nice and tangy. Their homemade bbq sauces are pretty good too with plenty of options to try. The other standout item is their Banana Puddin'. It looks like it is a banana cream instead of a pudding, but it is incredibly delicious. Also, if you go on a weekend evening, you might get to hear some live music. My main critique is the prices being high. It would be nice if they could lower them a bit, but all in all, I recommend supporting a local business by visiting Due South BBQ.
We ate at Due South in Roanoke for lunch today, and after all the times we have been there for great food, this time was severely disappointing. For $27 we got two sandwiches, one side, one 50 cent container of slaw, and two small drinks. The barbeque was overly salted and in large chunks. One sandwich had probably over an ounce of plain fat you could hold it up in a 6 inch strand. To get much flavor besides salt you had to add a lot of sauce. We were so sad, as this used to be one of our favorite places especially for family sized containers when we had company. Then we were asked our opinion on a new sandwich they are promoting. Ugh too big, too much meat, and would probably cost $15 or more by itself! No more.
This is close to me so I figured I would surprise my wife with lunch. Outrageous price for bbq sandwich and 3 sides. But what really got me was when she pulled the sides out and they're in the tiniest portion styrofoam containers I've ever seen (see pic). This looks like something from a happy meal. Mac n cheese, potato, and baked beans are three of the absolute cheapest sides to make. Even with the small sandwich, this meal has about $1 of actual product. They have a tip jar at the register. For what? Don't inside dining customers tip the wait staff? Why imply tips should be for takeout? Seems to be a common theme, these greedy business owners think the public should pay their staff. Greed is oozing from this place. I'd have to be hard up to spend $17 here for a happy meal again. No thanks.
