The food and atmosphere here are great! The service is lacking. We came for the all you can eat shrimp special and they were not organized at all. We had found out about the special the night before from Facebook. They don 't open until 4 p.m. We got there at 5:30 p.m. to be told it was reservations only. The hostess was rude when finding out we didn 't have a reservation. She acted like we should have known we needed a reservation. She did eventually find us a spot at 6:30 p.m.. We went to the bar to get a drink while we waited. Luckily, a few people were leaving so we just sat and ate at the bar. It took forever for the staff to even acknowledge we were there. So we went back to the hostess to take our name off the reservation list and to get menus. She then told us they 'll give you menus at the bar. So we went back to sit at the bar and wait with no menus. The bartender was very nice but extremely busy. So we were trying to be patient and understanding. The part that was frustrating was there were 2 other people that would come make their drinks behind the bar but not really acknowledge us or help the bartender. Waitresses would pile dirty cups and dishes to almost overflowing. It was really discouraging to see so many people not even try to help out. Not team players at all. We finally get our orders in. At this point we are pretty hungry. We got a basket of bread with 2 pieces in it. There were 3 of us... A guy in a white dressy shirt came behind the bar so we asked if we could have more bread since not everyone in our party could have 1 piece each. He then forgot the bread. It took a little over 2 hours to finally eat and pay the check. I really want to love this place as the food and the atmosphere were amazing! We just had a horrible experience with service. I plan to go back to give them another try and I 'm hoping the night we had was an off night and they were just unprepared or short staffed.
Our first visit to Cape Haze Tavern in Rotonda West last evening was so good. We had reservations but really didn’t need them . We were shown to our table by Dillon, our waiter and ordered our drinks. They came quickly and we order the special appetizer, portobello fries. OMG they were awesome. We both ordered the filet that came with mashed potatoes and spinach. I’m not a filet fan at all, but these melted in your mouth! We ordered them rare. Even though they had desserts that are made in-house, we had no room for them. All in all a great dining experience. We definitely will be back especially for the portobello fries.
