Barbara Jean’s - Saint Simons Island

I have to give this place 5 stars. We go every Saturday and every waitress is the best...best, best best! It 's a casual beach bar 2 blocks up from the beach but we don 't really have beach bars here as that 's not how SSI is set up. We have bars near the beach . The menu needs a new start as we don 't have much to choose from and not anything different. Hopefully there will be a new menu soon. The bartender makes great drinks. I 've never not had a great time there.

Tl;dr tacos and chowder was tasty. service was good. E X P E R I E N C E we came on a Saturday night 8pm as a group of 2 with dog. we had a 5 min wait. there 's a ton of openings in the restaurant. maybe just 20 tables. not as busy as other restaurants.practically all the other restaurants were packed. get to this area before 6 or after 8. otherwise expect a 30-60 min wait. D E C K S E A T I N Gplenty of outdoor seating. TV outside too for the sports fans! well lit with cute string lights. love the Spanish moss trees that hang over the deck area. tables are well spaced in deck area, for dogs. really appreciate that. F O O D sweet potato fries 5.00 it 's decent. get it if you 're craving it but it 's not worth itcedar key clam chowder 6.50 thick and creamy. 70/30 potato to shrimp. would still get again Pina colada coconut shrimp tacos 14.95 three with Pineapple, cilantro slaw and teriyaki sauce: so tasty!! literally tasted like a Pina colada taco. soo good!! came with chips and salsa. fish tacos 14.95 three with cilantro lime slaw and Santa fe dressing: so tasty!! came with chips and salsa. their salsa was divine huge portions. 3 tacos were very filling. not appetizer portions. love that!tap/filtered water on st simon island is not good. has a weird after taste. bring your own filtered water from home. I did lololfood came out sloww. took 30 mins to just bring out the fries then anotber 15 to get the rest of the food. S E R V I C E maddie was our hostess and she was fantastic. friendly, bubbly, warm. she was quick to get us written down, updated us then sat us. Avery was our server. she was very kind and quick to recommend options! she was knowledgeable about the menu! I don 't think my pup liked her bc she was so quick to clean our table (which we appreciate but pup didnt) haha that 's mine!! P R I C E40+15tip

We went here because my in-laws said it was one of the best place they've ever eaten. I was rather shocked to see the poor rating. Honestly, we would not usually go to a place with a 3.0 rating but I have to tell you that it is not a 3.0 restaurant. The food is absolutely outstanding. I see most of their poor ratings are because of service and maybe that's a problem during Covid but today we had one of the best meals we've had in a long time. The blackened mahi Ruben, the Grouper finger basket, the Grouper salad, and the shrimp Poboy are all very good. And we could not have had a better waitress. She was sweet, pleasant, and took very good care of this. This place is outstanding and we will definitely be coming back with some friends. Excellent!

Surprised it had a three out of five rating the food was fantastic and the service was as good I would strongly suggestHad blackened Mahi Reuben. Yum!!

Beautiful little restaurant without all the hustle and bustle of some of the other restaurants in St Simons. The atmosphere is very retro cabana style. Great spot for wings and beers. My only wish is that they had more vegetarian options (other than a Greek salad and a cheese quesadilla), but still a solid amount of options for meat and seafood eaters. Our server was Sandi and she was very sweet! The staff was very friendly. Definitely would come back next time we visit!
