Cafe Silvestre - Salt Lake City

Silvestre has been a staple for me, my wife and family for 30 years. By far my favorite Mexican food in SLC! I was truly sad to see the 3300 South location close. It has been the location of numerous family birthday celebrations and even found out I would be having a daughter while eating at Silvestre. For me it was not only the food, but also the memories our family had made here. I was hopeful with the West Valley location still open Silvestre would live on, but having gone there a couple weeks back, the menu had changed and unfortunately, the recipes and food also changed (not for the better). It is now truly the end of an era...

Sad to see this place is closed There is only the west valley location that reminds, will have to try, ... ... before this is written off as a loss.

We walked in and the place smelled like they had a sewer break. But we ordered because we have eaten there several times. We had just purchased sodas at the next door Thirst and brought them in with us because of the heat. The waiter took our order. A few minutes later another tasteless server came over and told us to either take our drinks to the car or leave and she would go cancel our order. She also said it was against the law for us to bring our own drinks (sodas) in. Before we had even decided what we were going to do she was cancelling our order so loudly for everyone in the restaurant to hear. We severed a long time relationship with Cafe Sylvestri and will never return. Plus the smell would make anyone lose their appetite upon walking in the door.

Food was so-so. The salsa was WAY too salty and the chips were store bought. The service was poor. The waiter refused to give my friend and I separate checks, the complained that the tip I left wasn't enough. Very rude and disappointing service. I will not go back.

My family has been going to this place all the way back to when Mom was still alive .she,actually loved to go there for lunch the family that runs the place are some of the most kind people you would ever want to meet and their food is authentic best Mexican food no disappointments you can't beat the price it's hands-down the place to go for Mexican food in salt lake
