A friend of mine and I were doing an impromptu Inner Richmond bar crawl. 540 Club ended up being our second stop. We walked in on Friday, May 26th around 5:30pm. They have happy hour 4pm-7pm, but I'm wasn't sure what qualified as a HH special. I ended up getting a Jameson on the rocks and my friend, a gin and tonic. I believe both drinks were under $10? I didn't get this round, so I'm not really sure, but I think that's what he said. We started off playing a few rounds of darts up front. I suck at darts, but it was fun just playing a game, drinking, and catching up. We moved on to pool afterwards in the back. Games are $1 each and you can get quarters from the bartender as it is coin operated. We got a second round of drinks and while playing our first game, another friend joined us. I suck at pool as well, so I let him take over the game. The boys played two more games while I finished my drink. And maybe had a third round? I can't really recall if my friend bought a third round of drinks after he showed up. 540 is a little divey, but it's a fun bar. I had a good time playing games and drinking. I haven't been here in forever, so it was nice revisiting an old bar. They have TVs as well, so it'd be great to throw back some drinks while catching a game. A fun stop while hanging out in Inner Richmond.
On my trek to review as many of the bars in my neighborhood, here is 540 Club. I like the plce alright, it has the right vibe for a local to wlak down the street a few blocks, and it is nice to rotate among different establishments. I like the beer choices an the IPAs, which are rotated every now and then. The mixology is just fine and the prices are good. The staff is real friendly. Most patrons are familiar faces from the 'hood and that is nice to nod at folks you kinda know from living in the Inner Richmond.
My cousins and I put ourselves down on the waiting list at Halu (said it was going to be about 30 minutes), so we walked to the nearest bar. There's billiards here. It's convenient. unfinished review that was suppose to be uploaded in March. All you need to know it's not a bar. And it was the first time I had tito's chilled.
540 Club was Stop #2 on a pub crawl that my friends and I did after brunch one Sunday. The bartenders were friendly. I like that there's a small outdoor patio, and it seems dog friendly. I should bring my dog here next time! This place truly has a pub atmosphere, with it's tattered furniture and dingy feel. My friends and I easily found a spot along the wall to chill and order some drinks. In the spirit of brunch, I ordered a **** Mary. It was alright. Not at the spice level I like, so I'd want to request more fire next time. Then again, I can't argue with the fact that it's a relatively inexpensive bar. Overall it's not my favorite bar, but I could immediately see that it's a go-to for many locals. Pretty standard divey venue, so definitely include this on your next pub crawl!
