Groundwork Coffee Co. - Santa Monica

The smell of the coffee dragged me in after Amazon package return.I don’t know how and why, even though I have Breville espresso machine at home, I still cannot duplicate the coffee from here. I ask the barista and she says maybe it is the water, or maybe it is the machine, it can also be the beans. But I have hand carried Java coffee beans directly from Indonesia.She is friendly and nice. And the music is Bon Jovi and other 80s’ hit songs. For her age, it is just too old and she says it is from the company. I think this is really a smart strategy to have oldies in the air. I don’t think hip hop goes well with coffee, it is just too noisy and not relaxing, but 80s’ love songs? Perfect with coffee and under the sun with cold weather.It is just outside my apartment and I will definitely come back again soon to have this thick and flavorful dangerous brown water to tame my tongue.It is really good if you have not tried. And the table is from old old that feels so different from others.

Let me start off by saying I really like groundwork. I get burritos, breakfast sandwiches and lattes from other locations all the time. I've been to the Cloverfield location in Whole Foods about 10 times in 2022. I always order ahead through the toasttab app as the store prefers. The past three times I've ordered ahead from this location they have been closed during their business hours! Also, the phone number listed is the personal cell of a former employee, so don't bother calling. According to the Whole Foods employees, the baristas often just don't show up for work. Currently waiting for ANOTHER refund from this location. I keep giving them a shot because it's the most convenient location for me, but this is getting ridiculous. TLDR: the employees don't show up to work, get your coffee elsewhere.

D.J. is the best and nicest barista one could find. He makes incredible coffee drinks, remembers us and our preferences, and is just a great guy.
