Bidra med feedbackI am staying in Santa Monica in a hotel by the third street, looked for kosher meat on google and I was pretty sure I'll have to go a long way to find a good kosher restaurant around me. So at first, I was very surprised how close it was and their location is great. The place looks clean and it's not too noisy, there's an option to sit outside on the street which is very nice and then the service was good, fast order taking, they made sure that I know what's in the sandwich that I'm ordering and took like 5 minutes until I got my food. And then the real test it was tasty! Love the place, would defenetly recommend to go check those guys out. Thank you!
Hummus Bar Express offers classic Mediterranean fare. From chicken shawarma, falafel, to kabobs. Tons of vegetarian options to choose from. Their hummus is served as is or spicy, and can be combined with beef, pine nuts or mushrooms. Located on 3rd St. Promenade, it gets quite busy during the weekends. They've got lots of seating and a little patio outside perfect view of the Promenade. Their main dishes can either be taken as a sandwich or as a platter. If you opt for the sandwich you can pick up to 5 toppings to add. These wraps are such a great deal if you're really hungry. They are huge!! While the platter comes with 2 sides rice, salad, mashed potatoes, etc. BEST BITES: you have to get the laffa whether you're getting a sandwich or a platter this is a must. It's soft, huge, and is the perfect vehicle for your protein, sides, salads, hummus or babaganoush. One downside is it does get cold pretty quick especially if you get it with the platter. I usually end up taking the rest home and it microwaves quite well. Sandwich wise the ribeye is amazing! You get a ton of juicy perfectly seasoned beef. As for toppings, my boyfriend gets it with the corn salad, hummus, fries, and caramelized onions really great combo. Their hummus is a little bit dry for my liking and is not as flavourful. Unfortunately since they're called Hummus Bar, I was really expecting amazing hummus. However for the price point and the quantity that you get, it's not bad.
I want to say that this place is great. It’s been on my starred places to check out for months before I finally had a chance to taste. Food was great, service efficient, large fresh baked flat bread. Would come again some time before leaving Santa Monica.
The Israeli salad was excellent with the blend of acidity and flavors. The cucumber and tomato were fresh. We loved the baked fresh pita/laffa bread. It was fluffy and light. Huge portions for the plates, we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day as well. I had the salad for both of my two sides with my chicken. N said the chicken was better than his beef koufta. He prefers Persian style so that isn't surprising that he wouldn't like the extra seasoning they add. Would definitely return next time want Mediterranean and on the promenade. Tip: if you get takeout containers for your leftovers, be aware the salad has liquid and will spill so drain it before you transfer it to the to-go container so you don't wind up with a wet mess.
I have passed by this place so many times in the past and not once did I decide to eat there. It was a nice day out and they have a cool little seating area outside so I decided to eat in. My little guy wanted a breath of fresh air. Haha. I walked in all confused on what to order but the cashier never once offered guidance. I asked the questions and all I got was 1 word answers. : . If you hate your life and can 't even smile then don 't go to work or leave your unhappy life behind. I asked about the happy hour menu to which she replied not today because it 's Friday ok fine. I asked about the kofta pita and she said $15. Huh. The menu said $10. She is obviously not paying attention to what I 'm saying and is rushing me even though there isn 't anyone behind me. She didn 't even tell me that I can customize The ingredients in my pita but instead pointed to a little paper on the register saying that these are the items that come in the pita and if that was OK. To which I replied I guess. I took my baby and went to sit in the patio area. she gave me a ticket with my order number on it and then a man came out and delivered it. The pita was actually big but it was super dry on the inside and the hummus didn 't help. No I didn 't like it at all and I don 't think I would give this place another chance.
