It is not so easy to find a restaurant that you can mark excellent and it is always a pleasure when it happens. that's one of them. we have fallen into this restaurant this afternoon and had a really good lunch. we all tasted, and they were all at the highest level. especially I would like to mention the rocket salad with earthberries. the dining room is pleasantly furnished and the tables well spaced. the view over green Umbria very pleasant, service good. very affordable. this restaurant is on a main street and has to get a lot of business, but they treat their customers as if they want to see them again.
My wife and me were having a nice trip to Norcia and we decided to have a stop this very nice restaurant. Just when we got inside we were surprised about the atmosphere. So beautiful and excellent in averything. We asked for some starters...and they served us a plenty of small dishes full of deliciuous local things: eggs with truffles, ham, cheese ...everything just over the top. Then we got some main courses with mashrooms and truffles....simplt excellent. So, I suggest you this place to have a nice stop before you get to your final destination
We took a group of local friends for Sunday lunch which is the best possible way to experience Il Madrigale. It was a return visit to a favourite spot. The restaurant overhangs (and thus overlooks) the valley, giving a wonderful view of a typical...Umbrian landscape. Sunday lunch unlike other meals is a set menu, with full table service and plenty of choice (and plenty of food). A wide range of local specialties is offered in antipasti; at least two types of home made pasta for primi (you get both no need to make a difficult choice); the main course of meat again a range, usually including veal, lamb and perhaps liver; also a local specialty of highly desired 'uccellini ' (little birds) is cooked 'alla brace '. the large open fire for brazier cooking is behind glass and a feature of the dining experience at il Madrigale. Yummy dessert, if you can manage it! Forty Euro covered all this, good quality wine which just keeps coming, bottled water (ditto), coffee, grappa or limoncello. This is a quality restaurant, very highly (and rightly) regarded by locals as offering excellent local specialties. Service is attentive and professional. The restaurant is family owned and run, with long standing staff who show an obvious pride in their work. If you are in Spoleto, it is well worth the 15km drive along the road to Rome.
