Bidra med feedbackSo I went to Bartolotti's with a friend for lunch about a year ago. Shortly thereafter I moved back home to St. Louis. If you have been to St. Louis you know The Hill neighborhood. Authentic Italian neighborhood where the old country food is still made and Mama's recipes are secret and followed. Bartolotti's is right up there with those restaurants that live in The Hill. If you find yourself pulling back at the taste of butter and garlic...go back to Olive Garden. I need to make it back over soon.
I came in to order a veggie lasagna. They were unfortunately out. The woman at the counter worked with me to develop a delicious dish with the veggies she did have on hand. Love the effort and compromise. Great customer service!!Giving this small business my business.
Innovative....the first word that comes to mind after the genesis bite of this pizza. The flavor invokes feelings of childhood and temporarily, releases you from the burdens that comes from aging into an adult. They say Naples, Italy is the spiritual Home of pizza, if this is true then Bartolotti 's Pizza Bistro has taken that proverbial Home and created mansions. As a Local Guide with a level 9 rating, the highest level so far to review this establishment, I do not take reviewing lightly. You, as a member of the public put your faith in your local guides to deliver real, fair, and honest reviews. If six stars was an option for a rating I would be asking how to give Bartolotti 's Pizza Bistro seven.
Wut? I mean, wut? What did I get, uh, a slice of the Bellaroni. There was no macaroni anywhere near this pizza. I do not know what the world is coming to. Sure, the lady was nice. Sure, the dudes were hard at it. Yes, they were doing a steady business. Yes, I mean -NO!! The pizza did not taste good. I broke up some of the crust and fed it to the crows. So, I took a bite, nice crunchy, sort of New Yorkness to the bite. Cheesy. I could taste the garlic and onions. Another bite, can't taste the pepperoni and the tomato got in the way. Ohh.... Where is the freaking sauce? Balance. Balance, balance, balance, balance. GOOD pizza is all about the balance of texture, heat, flavors and aromas. This slice was all out of balance. What is the common denominator lof bad pizza in Oregon. Lack of balance. In general, brought on by lack of the proper amount of sauce which helps coalesce the taste, texture and wonder if delicious pizza. Oh, yeah, the drink cups we're put out for customers while still wet. What other proper sanitary procedures are you all skipping here?
I miss NY Style pizza in the worst way and thankfully I can fill my craving Bartolotti's. They make a pie that is about as legit as it gets. I request a well-done crust as I fold my pizza and love that snap of the crust. I also love eating the pizza bones. My goto pizza initially is the Pizza Margherita which they call the Marge. It is as good as I would get back in NY and saves me a ton of air fare. The crust has excellent chew and the toppings are fresh and the cheese is not pre-shredded as it does have that odd off-putting taste of pre-shredded cheese. My GF is gluten-free but she will happily eat a gluten-ease (or whatever they are called) pill to enjoy Bartolotti's pie. We've added the House Pie to our order as it is delicious. If you are wanting a truly artisanal NY-style pizza, please give Bartolotti's a shot, they will impress you. Ohhh, they also make a mean Baked Ziti!!!
