Bidra med feedbackSo glad to see that Sumo Sumo has opened a location in South Edmonton along Calgary trail. I can finally satisfy the sushi craving without having to drive too far now! The menu has a large selection and the service is also friendly and attentive. I think that the sushi itself is flavourful, fresh and decently priced given the portion that you get. <br/ <br/ We ordered the deep fried tofu, the volcano roll, the aloha roll and the chop chop cone. All were very tasty and I would definitely consider ordering these dishes again! My only complaint is that the sushi rolls themselves are quite large.. it would be nice if they were cut into smaller sizes. <br/ <br/ In terms of restaurant decor/atmosphere, it's pretty spacious and open which is nice. But, I was disappointed to see that it was so dimly lit, with all the curtains closed for dinner service. Nonethless, the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this situation and I'll still be coming back for the good food!
This is a family favourite for us (as you might be able to guess my kids, who can be picky at home, are certainly not picky when it comes to ethnic food). Every time we come we are served quickly and the food is fresh and delicious. <br/ <br/ This last time had has opening with some miso soup (lovely and not too salty with perfect little cubes of tofu), avocado and mango spring rolls (so creamy and warm), and gyoza. All hits for us (expect my eldest, who for some reason doesn't care for miso soup). <br/ <br/ My youngest has a thing for the volcano roll (with scallop, crabmeat and shrimp plus a tangy sweet chilli sauce and spicy mayo) so we ordered that as per usual. We also tried a new one, the Apprentice roll with salmon, shrimp, crab, mango and avocado and we all really enjoyed that one. This time we tried a different platter...we opted for the Titanic (served on a boat platter of course). It included 6 California rolls, 3 tappamaki, 3 ashinko maki, 4 pieces of teriyaki chicken roll, 4 pieces of beef Thai roll, 2 egg sushi, 2 Ebi sushi, and 2 spicy crab sushi. It was another great meal.
Nice place, good food and the price was good compared to most places these days. Service was slow, once we received our food we didn't see the server again till the end.
Yummy! If only it wasn't so far I would be here more often. The sushi and sashimi is fresh, delicious and well made. I love the Sunday all you can eat brunch. At $35/pp it's definitely worth it with all the variety and sashimi offerings.
We have been wanting to try Sumo Sumo for their Sunday brunch but we never have the time. Anyway we decided to try it out for dinner last night. <br/ <br/ We had the chicken karaage, chirashi set, and aloha roll. The chicken karaage were small strips of deep fried chicken but they gave us a lot so I guess it kinda evened out. The karaage that I'm used to having are bigger pieces of chicken. It was fried really nicely as well. The sauce that it came with was okay. We prefer a more sour sauce but it's a little more on the garlic-y side.. but very subtle. The flavour is hard to explain haha. <br/ <br/ Chirashi set came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup had a weird initial flavour but it goes away. The salad had sesame dressing. The chirashi bowl itself had egg, ika, salmon, tuna, surf clam, and a shrimp. It had a lot of sushi rice. This meal alone can make a person full! The sashimi was decent, I found that it didn't melt in my mouth which was disappointing... I'm a big fan of tuna sashimi that just melts.. I found that theirs didn't. OH well.<br/ <br/ The aloha roll was interesting. I can't remember exactly what was in the roll but it had mango and shredded coconut and tuna I believe. It's not the prettiest roll I've seen but it tasted great. It came with a sauce ... It's almost like spicy mayo? But not spicy at all. The roll is of decent size and it was rolled well too.<br/ <br/ Service was good. Food came out at a reasonable time. The pricing is the same as any sushi restaurant. From my experience, I'd say it's a decent Japanese restaurant but it's not the best especially considering how far it is from me. I doubt I'll be back anytime soon.
