White Goose - Stettler

A few years back, we stopped at this restaurant while travelling from Edmonton to Drumheller and had a great experience. So, when we passed by again recently, we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed this time. Despite our preference for local eateries, our visit to White Goose on a Friday evening (Sept 12) was not up to par. The front parking lot was full, so we parked at the back and waited to be seated. After finally being seated, we received minimal service - just water and coloring sheets for our toddler. Despite being in a busy area with plenty of staff and empty tables, we felt neglected as no one came back to take our order or check on us. Attempting to get our server's attention proved futile, so after waiting for 20 minutes, we decided to leave and grab a meal at Subway instead. The service there was quick and friendly. If we find ourselves in the area again, we will be skipping White Goose Family Restaurant.

Although this restaurant may be old and unchanged for decades, it is clean and well-kept. The service was friendly and polite, even though the food took a bit long to come out. The menu features classic dishes like generous pasta portions, succulent ribs, and perfectly cooked steak. However, the standout dish was the rice pudding, which is a must-try. Even if you aren't a fan of rice pudding, give it a chance because it is rich, creamy, not too sweet, and incredibly tasty. It's the best rice pudding I've ever tasted.
