Sjätte Tunnan - Stockholm Sverige

I’ve been here a few times and I whole heartedly recommend this place. It just has a really fun environment. It has a large selection of mead, beer and other drinks. It also has a menu made from authentic medieval recipes. And they are the real deal. All the food I have had has been genuinely delicious. If you are in gamla stan you definitely should try to check this place out.

Aviod this place if you don't want to ruin your evening. The personal at the bar are rude and unpolite.

In the restaurant Sjätte Tunnan in the Old Town, “the food is inspired by authentic medieval recipes and ingredients”. This is, of course, a challenge for the chef! Only two or three generations back the Swedes favoured e.g., meat and steaks as fat as possible, often very salty. None of this is what modern westerns and international traveller’s favour nowadays. But we think that Sjätte Tunnan has handled this problem well. The appetizer “Cured and smoked salmon with yellow beetroot, hazelnut-mustard sauce and roasted hazelnuts ' ' was delicious! As the main course, I ordered a ragout stew with cuts of pork, together with wheat grouts. For some reason, I did not get any stew, only the cuts of pork, but they tasted good. The consistency of the wheat grouts was close to the Christmas porridge we ate when I was a child. Not a culinary highlight but perhaps it was what was eaten in the Middle Ages. Interesting. The setting and ambience is a great experience. The restaurant is located in a medieval vault. It is calm and pleasant, and not as noisy as in the Viking restaurant AiFur a few blocks away. You can sit and converse with your wife or partner. We were there during corona restrictions and I guess it is livelier under normal conditions. Some evenings there is live music. The staff is friendly and service-oriented. We recommend Sjätte Tunnan if you want a different and exciting experience. If you are looking for international gourmet food, maybe you should go somewhere else.

This is a great bar and an excellent restaurant. The medieval theme is very genuine and the staff welcoming. There are lots of nice beers and meads to choose from and the food is delicious. I had the cod for dinner and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
