Old Sturbridge Village

Great place to stop and learn about New England life in the early 1800s. There are many buildings of the period, furnished as they would have been. The have knowledgeable people in period dress there happy to educate and demonstrate many of the roles and daily tasks of a blacksmith, Cooper, cabinet maker, potter, and banker. They also did some baking and braiding straw for hats as well as read some letters of what it was like for women and the issues of that period.

This place is fascinating, but I would make sure to wear closed toed shoes. It's all dirt roads, which makes sense. The people working there were very knowledgeable and answered all the questions you could think of. They make everything there, a potter, Cooper, farmers, gardeners,etc. They also have good and water on-site. The chocolate chip cookies are quite delicious.

Excellent! My 7 year old son and I had an amazing time. Great for all ages. Hands on for kids...and kids and heart. The costumed reactors are everywhere and give really interesting information. The grounds are beautiful, and the town is actually pretty big. It's like stepping back in time. In fact, I told my son we were going to be taking a time machine back in time to 1835. He was very into it, and wants to return for Halloween and Christmas.

I'm thrilled to share my experience with Old Sturbridge Village! This journey into the 1800s of US history was absolutely captivating. The exploration allowed my family and me to engage with historians in period costumes and immerse ourselves in the past. The platform offered a wealth of places to discover, and the interactive conversations with knowledgeable historians made learning enjoyable. It's a fantastic activity for families interested in history and a unique way to transport yourselves to another time.

My wife and I decided to check OSV out on a beautiful Sunday. I myself am not the biggest fan of museums and historical sites, however this place is amazing. All of the buildings are curated perfectly and the workers are very interactive and eagerly want to share information. There is something for everyone to enjoy. My wife and I could have sat in the blacksmith shop all day. Veterans and active duty have free admission.
