Federal Hotel - Swan Hill

I came for a quick dinner with a couple of work friends, perfect location. Nice food and quick service. Good atmosphere and quite busy for a weekday night! My friend had steak and it was huge! I would have steak next time. Thanks

I ordered the surf and turf which came with a nicely cooked medium rare 350g steak. Just how I like it! The prawns were so sweet and delectable. Cooked perfectly (weren't chewy) and the creamy white wine and garlic sauce was just heavenly. Used the chips to soak up all juices on the plate :) The salad was also pretty nice as it was crunchy and fresh with a little dressing to prevent having any bland flavour. Staff were on their feet as it was so busy so I respected their hard work with patience! Which some people don't seem to have around here for a small country town in the middle of no where. This was an awesome meal shared with awesome company. Will return for more if I ever pass through again! To top it all off I chased it all down with a big fat pint of cold beer.

We had a party of 6 and we all went to order together. We asked if we could have our garlic bread before our meals. All good the garlic bread come out and less than 1 minute later the first 2 meals come out. One other meals was a steak with garlic butter. The steak was so cold that the butter didn't even melt. It was sent back to the kitchen Ten minutes later then next 3 meals come out. We were still waiting for one meal and the one that was sent back. The owner come over and said this never happens. She then comeback and told me that my meal had been taken out already. I said clearly I don't have my meal. So by the time everyone else had finished eating the cold meal returned to the table, this time it was hot but the garlic butter was missing. The last meal arrived once the rest of the table had finished eating. At the end the medium steak I ordered was well done and there was no apologies for all the stuff ups.

A large group of friends enjoyed a meal here and all were happy with the quality of the meal and the service.

The great disappointment with this hotel was the complete lack of white wine by the glass. The food was typical Australian pub fair and priced at the higher end. The inability to by a fine locally sourced white wine was inexplicable.
