Great location, good menu at the right price, best flight in cold days in the mountains, easy to reach over a beautiful walk on the hill

The castle is very impressive from the surrounding area. If you go to the castle, take about 20 minutes. In the castle itself, this is nothing special to see, there are small beautiful museum, but since all explanations were given in German, we could not benefit from the guide. There are also small garden with beautiful view and a restaurant, but all this.. (our rating is for the castle, not the restaurant..

Having stayed at the nearby Stift (Cloister) St. Georgen, it was logical we would visit this famous castle. Perched high atop a rocky outcropping and supposedly used as the inspiration for Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle, this medieval fortification really does have a fairy-tale feel about it. Visitors walk up through numerous gateways until finally reaching the main castle and chapel at the top. An elevator is also available for those that cannot make the walk up. However, they miss out on witnessing the tremendous defenses the castle possessed in form of all the gates. All proceeds from the ticket sales go towards the preservation and upkeep of the castle. It seems the government does not support or help owners of such cultural treasures maintain these treasures.
