Bidra med feedbackMy wife and I visited The White Bear following the reopening after its refurbishment and we absolutely loved it. Whilst the interior has been modernised you still have the old stone floors and the interior is beautiful and you still have the old, elegant interior. The food is perfectly cooked and the service from the staff is friendly and welcoming. Really really pleased this pub has reopened and can’t wait to visit again!! A must for anyone who likes good food and a pub with character
I ordered soup and a sandwich at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the soup lacked flavor, had a strange texture, and was covered in chive oil. The bread that came with it seemed to have been microwaved. The fish sandwich was actually a small piece of haddock, which was tasty but not what I expected. The bread was white because they had run out of granary and seemed stale. The sandwich also had thick and uneven slices of tomatoes and lettuce, with a light coating of mayonnaise. The waitress mentioned there was tartare sauce on it, but I haven't seen her since. The chips were overcooked and the bill came to £22.50. I am now waiting for them to collect the payment. I recommend dining elsewhere.
I had not visited the pub before the restoration, but a friend said it was worth a visit. Plenty of car parking space. Really nice layout in the garden can't wait to visit in the Summer. The pub has a nice relaxed ambience about it, nicely laid out with a cosy what I would call a proper pub area little coves of tables for dinner and the larger restaurant area, very dog friendly which will come in handy. The food was very tasty good value for the quality. The waitresses were very attentive and returned occassionlly to check all was ok very enjoyable we will be back.
We were disappointed with our visit to the newly refurbished White Bear. Some of the charm of the pub has been removed by the refurbishment but that could have been forgiven if it hadn't have been for the slow service, lack of meat in the beef and cheese pies and the fact that a £35 bottle of wine was already open when it arrived at the table. We didn't complain but should have but we won't be returning.
I have visited this restaurant twice now and I love the ambience and the way they have blended old and new elements. The original charm is still present after the renovation, which shows a lot of thought was put into it. Many of the staff are young, new, and inexperienced and could benefit from more training to maintain consistent standards. It seemed like they were unsure of their roles. The service was slow both times and on my second visit, my meal was served much later than everyone else's without an apology, which was disappointing. The food is decent, but offering more healthy vegetable options besides just broccoli as a side would make it feel more wholesome. Despite these issues, I will give it another chance as it is my local restaurant.
