Bidra med feedbackDe-li-ci-ous! This place is amazing, and very well appreciated. The portions are huge! Try the leaf packed Sushi (Kakinoha) and the grilled mackerel sushi is heavenly!
I had a set meal that included 2 pieces of persimmon leaves sushi, which is Nara’s specialty for around ¥1,400. In my opinion, the sushi has tol much rice but it’s nice to feel the persimmon flavor from the leaves. The place was small and cozy and the staff was really nice.
It is my first time to try this Kakino-ha-Sushi. It’s very unique style of sushi, wrapped by persimmon leaf and no soysauce dipping. Taste good, looking perfect as well. Saba (Mackerel) Samon are recommended! You can also add shrimp too! *FYI: Do not eat leaves. Just remove leaf nicely, fold and put them aside.
Kakinoha (Persimmon Leaves) sushi wrapped in persimmon leaves is a Nara delicacy that has been served since the Edo Era. Slices of mackerel, salmon, sea bream and other fish are placed on top of fairly small amounts of vinegared rice and wrapped in persimmon leaves to form kakinoha sushi. With a gentle flavor, peeling back the leaves to eat the sushi releases the wafting smell of the leaves to further enhance its fine taste. We bought the eight pieces of kakinoha with the combination of both mackerel and salmon for ¥1306, absolutely a must try!
The persimmon leaves add a different tone to the sushi. I enjoyed eating something different and they have Japanese style tables to go with the experience as well. The sushi doesn't have too much fish itself, which makes it harder to taste the fish when it has the persimmon taste added to it, so I do wish it had more fish. The wasabi paste is different from what I have tasted before and I though that was really tasty.
