Such a little hidden treasure to have a “spot of tea with scones” in Tennessee with a host of different treats to enjoy….and the hosts are amazing folks that make you feel welcome!
The members of our group had different main dishes including filet, shrimp scampi and salmon. Each was perfectly prepared and accompanied by delicious sides. Soup and salad were superb as well, but the crème brûlée stole the show! It was hands down the best I have ever eaten!
Today my wife and i experienced a quiet and peaceful afternoon tea at Tea on the Mountain. It’s in a quiet neighborhood and is in what was a private home, but, it is tastefully set up with white table cloths and lovely china tea cups and saucers. The folks that run the place are really nice and make sure you are taken care of during your time in the tea room. We had the 4 course Afternoon Tea which was scones with clotted cream and lemon curd and the lemon curd was really good; I ate my 2 scones and just spooned out lemon curd on my plate to eat with the other courses. Next was an assortment of pastry cups filled with delightful cheese, chicken salad, and Brie cheese. The 3rd course was finger sandwiches consisting in cucumber, ham salad, pimento cheese and something new to us, a pickled okra wrap. It tasted like a dill pickle and was really a pallet cleanser…I am not a real veggie kind of person, but, it was good. The last course was 4 or 5 different deserts. We took those home to enjoy after church tomorrow. The High Tea has 2 more dishes….a cup of soup and several Scotch Eggs. This tea shop also serves dinners that sound super delicious…like Beef Wellington.they make entrees to order and they are individual size servings; in this case a mini-beef Wellington for 1 along with the other side dishes listed on their menu. The owners are super sweet folks and they make all the dishes and the server is a lovely woman who has been with the Tea house for a long time. If you visit this place please engage them in conversation as they are delightful to talk to. There was one other party of 2 in the room when we were there and I engaged the is conversation about their food and they were very accommodating and told us how their dishes were. Lastly, there have a cookbook for sale that contains all their recipes. We had the chance to review it while we were waiting for the 1st course and it was full of great things to eat; some of which were on their menu. I am looking forward to the curry egg salad and Shepards Pie. So if you want to spend a nice quiet afternoon call them for a reservation and enjoy some good food and even better company.
This charming little tea room was redesigned from the chef and owner's childhood family home which is full of wonderful memories for her, and you can feel that in the air with the care given to the china displays. It is off the beaten path and worth the drive. The afternoon tea food was excellent and so was the service. The people there are warm and friendly. It made for a lovely afternoon!
