The Old Anchor - Vale of White Horse

We were seeking out live music and The Old Anchor was a great choice for supporting live music. Unfortunately, we visited on a quiet evening when there was no performance. But luckily for us, the owner had a pair of talented locals available for an impromptu rehearsal. We had a fantastic evening, thanks to them. This pub is situated in a beautiful location, making it worth the search for a tranquil atmosphere.

I am a local musician who has played at this pub many times over the years. Recently, something has changed here. Gone are the days of being placed in a corner and told to just come with... it has quickly become the go-to place for music in Abingdon. The owner is friendly and also a musician, who has set up a fantastic new stage fully equipped with a professional sound system. I have seen some extremely talented musicians perform here!

When I was exploring the streets of Abingdon, I stumbled upon a hidden gem. After a long week at home, I decided to stop in for a few pints at a local bar. It was a refreshing change from my typical routine of coffee in a hotel room. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were friendly, giving off old school charm. As a fan of traditional pubs, I enjoyed my experience here. The food was decent and overall it was a pleasant visit.

As I explored abingdon at the weekend, my friends and I were drawn to the river in this pub and from the word we were not disappointed by their hospitality and friendly atmosphere. we enjoyed an entertaining evening with a few pints., a hearty cake and maische and a live band great witness!

Have been in the Anchor several times recently and it’s been a decent pub. Good range of drinks, nice decor and friendly service. They are really dog friendly in there and have a nice little enclosed beer garden.
