Caffe Biffi - VARESE

This is a pleasant café in a square right in the centre of Varese. It has seating both inside and outside, with the outside tables being properly under cover (in an arcade) so you don't have to worry if it rains. I've only been there for drinks and snacks, but it seems very pleasant.

It is in downtown Varese, in one pedestrian street. Service was very good, food was good, adequate price, it has tables outside with a good ambience. It is recommended.

I came here alone for a lunch during work. The service was very fast and good. I took a salad and a coffee. The price is cheap for the position of bar. It is a bar with different simples plates for lunch. It is typical of Varese.

We walked around in Varese looking for a spot to eat. The location looked quite nice and they had seats outside available. I ordered a pasta arrabiata but asked for penne instead of maccheronchini. The waitress came back to tell me it was not possible. It scared me because it indicated that the pasta’s weren’t fresh and things are premade. But we already had some drinks so i’d gave them the benefit of the doubt. Result; a disgrace. I’m honestly asking myself how italians can serve such a plate of pasta. The plate was very hot and the pasta in the middle was cold. Microwaved.. the sauce was dried in to the pasta and some piece’s where rock hard. So basically it’s 2/3 day old pre made pasta’s which is microwaved. My girlfriend had an eggplant dish which was piping hot on the outside and cold on the inside. The eggplant was very bitter. So it is probably frozen. I’d stay away here.. and i’m honestly baffled by the lack of respect for their domestic quisine.

The name sounds fun and people at the tables outside looked happy, but my experience was one of food I could easily have thrown together myself in a few minutes in my apartment, and indifferent service. I waited ten minutes for the bill, asked another waiter for it, and eventually got it another five minutes later, with no apology. Don't they want to get paid? I was tempted to just go.
