We were lucky enough to stumble across this little jewel of an albergue on the Camino de Santiago. It was the Blues music albergue owner Javier was playing that had us stop for a drink and then decide to stay for the night. We had the whole peregrino room to ourselves and got to enjoy a beautiful home-cooked meal for dinner. The hospitality and the charm of this place was a breath of fresh air on the Camino. We recommend this place to anyone!! Thank you Camynos!!
Thinking back, we should have made a reservation for a double room, they look fantastic. The shared dormitory wasnt bad at all, 10 beds and if you are lucky, you will only have one or 2 persons as company. The place is small but has all the right facilities and it is really clean and well kept. They really should do something about the small courtyard on the side, it can be made to look nicer and would be a good addition to the compound. The good thing is that there isn't much to do in Ambasmetas, and Vega de Valcarce is 2 km away, so take advantage, rest, and dine in the albergue's little restaurant for the most gourmet culinary experience you will have on the Camino. Even the menu del dia is exquisite there. We had the most amazing Galician Soup with meat!! , an extraordinary marinated cold trout with aceto balsamico glazed boiled potatoes, and a rich cinnamon rice with milk that reminded us of childhood. The 2 guys that own the place are nice and willing to help one is cooking and one is front-desking: All in all, the best quality we had on the Camino, for regular Camino prices. Highly recommendable.
I walked the Camino in March and April 2014 and Camynos was an outstanding place to stay. I ate tasty local dishes perfectly cooked and served by the friendly and attentive hosts Gerrado and Javier . My evening meal was far and away the best food I tasted in the whole of my walk from Pamplona to Santiago- it was subtle, flavoursome and definitely not oily! The albergue accommodation was clean and cheerful. The hotel rooms looked well furnished and comfortable . The interior of Camynos is true to the country origins of the building, with sensitivity to local aesthetics and materials and a large log fire to ensure a warm welcome in every sense. Definitely worth stopping for before the challenge of O'Cebreiro!
Personalized attention by owners, nice location on the outskirts of Ambasmestas. Good menu and comfortable atmosphere. The lovely old stone property is being renovated by new owners, to accommodate pilgrims and vacationers. Well worth a visit, either overnight or for a meal along the Camino.
