Simply exceptional, refined food, impeccable service and beautiful atmosphere
Se stumbled across this place by accident, first walking past it and we noticed that the location was in a small building facing a parking/back yard looking area, away from the busy street. 5 minutes later, we turned around and headed back to this secluded and charming restaurant. I ordered a starter with polenta slices with toppings: salami, gorgonzola cream and a mix with trout that was really good. For my next course, I choose the risotto and my date ordered the beef tenderloin, medium rare, and it was beautifully cooked. (The meat could be made with more salt and/or served with flaked salt) Il campidoglio is a good place to have a great meal away from the noise and crowd. Friendly staff and good prosecco!
Initially I wanted to go to another restaurant with good reviews. After walking for about an hour with my low battery phone beeping and me constantly checking Google map for directions, I was unable to find the restaurant. Urgh! I followed the directions and I opened a big black door, I was in a church! What a pleasant surprise! Perhaps I was meant to visit the church? It was Sant 'Eufemia, an ancient church in Verona. After the church, I passed many shops and I suddenly saw a signboard advertising Il Campidoglio. I knew my search for dinner was over! I followed the arrow to the back street. At first glance, I thought it was a car park area then I saw the restaurant. There was no big clear sign outside the restaurant. I was already craving for pasta. So I ordered the tagliatelle carbonara. It was simple, exactly what I needed after a long day. I wanted to order Caffè corretto but double checked with the waitress before deciding. She said it was coffee with whiskey. Wow! I had plain decaffed coffee instead. The fork and spoon were placed inside a brown paper, not something I see every day. I noticed many locals in the restaurant although it was hidden from the busy streets. Good food speak for themselves. Verona is the city of Love. O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
We just finished 1.5 weeks in Italy and this was our best meal (and we ate well throughout)! Started with beef carpaccio, followed by truffle tagliatelle, beef with shallots and balsamic, and finished with a delicious tiramisu. Service was excellent and atmosphere was lovely. Truly a great find!!
