Malt Shed - Wangaratta

The beer is amazing. If you want to have a change from a commercial lager, the Malt Shed is the go! Food was delicious. Service quick for a reasonably priced meal. Entertainment superb. A must do in Wangaratta.

Friendly staff did well to handle a massive influx of people , food was tasty and tender.

Very disappointed with our visit. When ordering our meals we said that we would like two of the share options to begin, before our main meals. Our main meals arrived at the table first. When we queried why the starters had not come out we were told that their way of doing things was to bring everything out together and it was our fault for ordering everything on the same docket. We should have gone up and ordered our starters and then gone back up and ordered our main courses. The person taking our order should have advised us on the issue. Notwithstanding this, the main courses were only warm. This is also the first place where I have ordered chicken parmigiana and salad has not been included. There were two options for red wine (as this is a brewery, two red wine choices is fine) but one of the choices was out of stock as they had sold six bottles of it the day before. This is not fine. Not a good start guys.

For starters, we had perfectly prepared honey-sauce chicken wings. My wife ordered the 300-gram rump steak while I opted for the cattle short ribs. I could go on about how delicious everything was, but to give you some perspective, I asked my wife how her steak was, and she replied, “I haven’t had a steak this good since our last high season, and that was five years ago!” I, for one, am a huge fan of slow-cooked smoked meat, and these beef dishes were honestly the best I’ve ever had! We were fortunate enough to chat with the chef, who shared that the ribs were smoked by his third-year apprentice in their very own smoker. This kind of initiative from enthusiastic young staff really resonates with me. The chef even went above and beyond by having a pint after work and preparing a dessert for us after the kitchen had closed. The tasting paddle with six malt selections was very reasonably priced and offered a fantastic variety. Overall, it was a wonderful experience worth every penny! I’d rate it 11 out of 10!

This spacious pub/brewery is located in the heart of Wangaratta. They offer excellent beer and an impressive selection of local wines from the King Valley and Rutherglen regions. The portions are generous, and the food is top-notch. You won't be disappointed!
