Otto's Deli - Wantagh

Great deli. Clean, friendly staff, and my sandwich was perfect.

I grew up going to Otto's deli in the 70's and 80's. The best roast beef I ever ate along with, in my opinion, the best potato salad on long Island. I moved out of the area and have not been there since they relocated from the original location on Park Avenue about 5 or 6 years ago. Yesterday I stopped by to get a roast beef hero and potato salad to bring home. The place was clean and the workers were friendly but I knew it was not the same Otto’s. The roast beef in the deli window did not look like Otto’s house made roast beef that I remember. There were political references posted on the walls which is never a good idea and is very, very unusual for the Otto’s. I got home and unwrapped my hero and was so disappointed that it was not the great Otto’s roast beef but the standard, tasteless pre-made roast beef and to make it worst there was only about 3 slices of roast beef on the bread. All I could taste was bread and mayonnaise (see photo). The potato salad was not Otto’s potato salad as it did not taste and it was labeled with the name of another deli.

Got taken over by the guy who killed a deli in Bellmore, unfortunately looks like it's all downhill. Went in today two people in there, stood there 10 minutes no one helped me, had to leave. Looks like might be the beginning of the end. Not a good old German deli anymore, to be blunt if a man of asian descent takes over a German deli expect it to die.

This place is 5 star all around. Workers are great. Home fries are the best in town or actually in Nassau county.
