Sourdough Willy's - West Linn

This is my favorite bakery! They have the best Danish pastries, scones, bear claws, sticky rolls, and sourdough bread! You can really taste the sourness in the sourdough, which I love. The crust isn’t too hard, so it doesn’t hurt the roof of your mouth—it's just right. They also make the most amazing grilled cheese sandwiches! Don’t let the old building intimidate you; you absolutely have to give this place a try!

We discovered Sourdough Willy's at the Tuesday afternoon farmer's market on SE Chavez, just south of Hawthorne in Portland. I hope I'm reviewing the right place. While I'm not a sourdough expert, I know what I like, and the rolls we purchased were fantastic. I made a chicken sandwich with one of the slightly toasted rolls, and it turned out to be one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. I can't wait to enjoy the rest of what we bought and hopefully find them at the market again next week!

Wow! The sourdough at this place is absolutely amazing. The sticky rolls, also made from sourdough, are tasty and light. If you haven't tried this bakery yet and live within an hour's drive, you need to go—it's the cutest little family-owned spot. We drove past it for years without even realizing it was there, primarily because the sign is partly obscured by bushes. The apricot danish is fantastic as well. They even have a traditional bread cutter if you're looking for slices. Bread is a must here, and don't forget to try their cookies!

We live two blocks and pick up a laib sourdough every week. Will and Grace have small and large breads, rounds, dinners, cut or inspired, and wheat bread. The selection of cookies is plentiful and perfect for ant-sweet tooth: molasses, chocolate chip, oatmeal. The bear claws so rich and satisfying, the sticky bungalows close to the right amount of nuts, fruit and cinnamon, and the Danishes each perfectly with their signature fruit and hint of cardamom. The scenarios are the most beautiful scenarios on this side of the Atlantic. Occasionally Macaroons that melt in the mouth. And perfectly brewed coffee to go.

Even though Grace has retired, the bread runs through the family, and it's soft and delicious. it makes the best cheese bread!
