The Roebuck - Winchester

This has become my new favorite spot to visit after the lockdown. The food is excellent, the service is attentive, and the Bramble cocktail is outstanding.

I spend a lot of time in London and have recently moved back to Winchester, The Roebuck was one of my favourite evenings out ever. (that’s a statement We were super lucky and were able to have a table under the lights and awning, it was absolutely stunning at night and really set the atmosphere. I had one of the best cocktails i’ve ever had and there was an amazing balance of taste in the passion fruit martini, I definitely recommend this to anyone taking a visit to the pub itself. I am a vegetarian try my hardest to eat clean food so going out in a small city is sometimes hard I ordered the Lentil Dahl and it was truly fabulous. I am so grateful to of had the opportunity to visit the pub because the service and atmosphere set by all the staff was amazing I absolutely loved it. One of the best places in Winchester by far! :

Went for a few post work drinks with friends and found the service really poor. We were either asked if we wanted more drinks 5 minutes after receiving them or not all for long periods of time. Many drinks never arrived, and on one occasion another table’s drink arrived which we were told we could keep (perhaps to balance out some of our drinks being elsewhere). Two of our party ordered food which never came and when we got the money back for this food at the end of the night the waitress commented that we, “Had done well”. Perhaps we had done well in comparison to some of the other tables there that night, who seemed to also have been messed about, but not in comparison to how our night would have been if we’d gone elsewhere. Would not recommend. Did really like the fairy lights though.

Outdoor during covid19 restriction looked appealing unter canvas and was, sadly the same can not be said for food and drink. I had garlick mushrooms never had small chopped buttons before very poor, main I ordered beef with trimmings which were meagre but the beef was not off the joint it was better on the sole of boots than eating very very poor. Drink were very limited as far as beer was concerned no bitter, mild etc just two lagers ice cold on a chilly windy day outdoors does not appeal. You have to be honest with people the food was not eaten but returned without payment but so much for a special birthday. that said the vegetarian food seemed to go ok without complaints.

The door staff were incredibly rude, we'd booked a table for a quite night with friends and they went out of their way to highlight that we weren't welcome. I really hope it wasn't racism in action, but I'm not sure how else to account for our treatment. Just shocked that this still can exist, this is a real stain on my view of the city and I hope it's not indicative of other venues in Winchester.
