I had a wonderful experience with the staff at the restaurant; everyone I interacted with was fantastic and delightful. Unfortunately, my food did not live up to the same standard. While the meat was tender and the salad with ginger dressing was enjoyable, the rest of the meal fell flat. The miso soup was overwhelmed by an excessive amount of seaweed, drowning out any other flavors. The rice was bland and mushy, and the carrots were so soggy that I suspect they came from a can. The meat lacked any sear or browning, making it taste boiled. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience.
The food was quite good overall. The octopus dumplings were a bit cold in the center, but everything else was excellent. While it may not be the best I've ever had, for the price and convenience, I left feeling full and satisfied. The waiter was very polite and the service was exceptional.
This food here is never a disappointment to me and a friend of mine that he and his family moved away from New York because of the high crime, always orders something that I think is fish and it's covered in battered and fried? I can't remember the name but he says that this place makes it the best that he's ever had it in New York or San Francisco. So, I do recommend it. Usually when I'm looking at reviews I look at the number ones because I always think that maybe the
Sakura is also unique in that they serve shiso, a leaf often found in California sushi restaurants that my daughter and I both love. Our favorite waiter, Luke, is exceptionally knowledgeable and speaks some Japanese, despite being of Chinese descent and having grown up in Indonesia. My daughter, a friend, and my two grandsons all adore this restaurant. The only things that could enhance the presentation are daikon threads, which typically accompany certain sushi dishes and sashimi (a skillful technique to master), and the traditional way of serving white fish like red snapper with ponzu sauce and finely shredded scallions or tobiko. One dish I do miss, which doesn't appear on any local Japanese menus, is Sukiyaki, one of Japan's most famous and beloved nabemono dishes.
