Bidra med feedbackLove this place! Food is amazing! I love how quaint and old fashioned it is. Definitely one of my favorite places in the areas!
Had an excellent lunch with our family here. The dining room is historic and cozy. For lunch we ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly with a delicious glaze, potatoes and vegetables. Our meal also came with a soup and fresh rolls. We enjoyed looking around the lobby at the historic decor and admiring the colonial architecture. This is a good location for a special lunch or to host a special event as they have a lot of space and seating.
I spent my birthday weekend here and really enjoyed it. The room was cute and clean. I loved the clawfoot tub in the bathroom! I couldn't believe how nice the finish was on a tub that old. My room faced the street and I kept the windows open at night because I liked the quiet hum of cars driving by. For being on the main road in Woodbury, I thought it was amazingly quiet! Great location. Unfortunately, I never ate here but I plan on having dinner here the next time I'm in town. Thank you for a lovely stay.
I 'd recommend finding a recently emptied dumpster before I 'd book a room here. Although it is historic, not worth the trouble or your time to subject yourself to staying. The toilet didn 't flush right, made weird noises and had to jiggle the handle. Checked in and the Inn keeper was nice, but never disclosed there was construction going on outside at night. When I asked to check out after only 3 hours and state there is no possible way I 'm paying for a stay here with an extremely loud dump truck and equipment going on, the Inn keeper seemed puzzled what I was talking about. Trying to get a refund on a credit card for them was being compared to climbing Mt. Everest. After trying to refund, they charged my credit card again. Needless to say, I knew about Curtis Inn for years and always wanted to stay in such a historic building. Lesson learned, drive past but don 't stop for a stay. They could use some training in customer service, housekeeping and how to operate a credit card machine. The food was OK, nothing more than typical bar food.
I grew up in Woodbury CT about 3 minutes up the road from here, and I came maybe once for my friends going away party over a decade ago. I remember the party was held around back in the bar called City Hall, but I don't remember much else. Growing up my mom would go to City Hall for darts. I have family who still goes to the Curtis House to play setback, it's like a home away from home. I planned a trip to Woodbury for my birthday because I missed home and wanted to show my husband where I grew up. My original plan was to stay at an AirBNB, however, when I saw that it was booked for my dates Curtis House was my only other option. I am SO glad Curtis House was my only option, because I may have never gotten a chance to stay here. I was very weary about staying here because, yes, I watched Hotel Hell and it made me nervous... I have to say, don't give into the hype of that show. This place is a true gem and I honestly didn't want to leave! Upon check-in, I was charged for our full stay and we were given a key to our room. Check-in was very quick and quite simple. Sheila was wonderful and very friendly. To get up to the guest rooms, you have to climb a flight of stairs. To my knowledge, there is not an elevator. We stayed in room 3 which is in the main house. It had one Queen bed and a private bathroom with a shower/tub combo. The bathroom was very spacious which was convenient. I read that many people thought the beds were uncomfortable, let me tell you this. Yes, the bed is on the harder side and it does squeak. We did not mind this at all. We have a king size memory foam mattress at home and we were comfortable sleeping at the inn. It is all personal preference. Yes, there are bugs, but I only saw dead bugs outside the windows and ONE fly in the bathroom. These bugs did not hinder our enjoyment of the room one bit, they were not in the least bothersome. Innkeeping was very friendly and respected that we did not want our bed made up. I bring my own pillowcase because I have severe allergies to many detergents and I like to keep my pillow in place to prevent a breakout. The only thing innkeeping touched was out towels and took out the garbage, they were very respectful of our request. It's rumored that a spirit named Betty haunts this Inn, however, the three nights we stayed we did not have any unusual activity happen. One night during our stay we ordered food from the restaurant and brought it up to our room. Fish and chips and chicken fingers. The chicken fingers were very good, and I also enjoyed the BBQ sauce that came with them. I was not impressed with the fish, I thought it was a bit soggy and it lacked flavor. While this is not a deal breaker, I was just a tad disappointed because we were hungry and didn't feel like going out for food. All the fish needed was a little longer in the fryer to get it nice and crisp and some seasoning in the batter and salt at the end. The fries that came with it were seasoned and fried perfectly, I couldn't stop eating them! All in all, we had a wonderful time during our stay and we can't wait to return. This Inn feels like a home away from home!
