The beach was great with great sunsets. Had a two-bed room that was converted into a queen by the combination of beds. The room was clean enough, but the tiles were a brown one that didn't make them look so clean. Staff is very helpful, but like most islands things are slower. The food service takes a while, but I guess it seemed that everything was cooked when ordered. Overall a great experience with good management and staff.

This is probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in! It is beautifully located INSIDE the ruins. The rooms are beautiful and spacious spotlessly clean. The grounds are beautiful. And especially the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful especially manager Issa. He personally went beyond and beyond and helped me with a special matter. I can't say enough good things. If I'm ever in Zanzibar, I'm back to Protea!

Boutique Beach Resort with a large restaurant and SPA. We stayed here five nights and were happy from the second our taxi held in front of the ruins around the property, there was an old and authentic atmosphere. The hotel offers direct access to a wonderful beach, while close to Stone Town. A free shuttle runs three times a day (first drives 9.45). All in all, we can recommend this to anyone who is looking for a little 'Pole Pole' holiday time!

Everything was clean and the grounds were nicely maintained. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was good but the portions were huge. The management and staff were very nice and kind. I hope someone is looking out for the kitties on the property. The reason I gave 4* was due to the cash price being very high, I don't think it justifies that rate. You could get much better value somewhere else in Stone town or the northern part of the island.
