Delighted to know that Maureen in the Dawyck cafe is trying out some baking recipes for diabetics or people on a low sugar diet. This is the first time l’ve come across any cafe who is willing to cater for diabetics. Usually, it’s just lifestyle choices (vegan/vegetarian) but diabetes is a medical problem, and I’m so pleased my husband can enjoy low/sugar free alternative with his cuppa. Well done Maureen at the Dawyck.
I enjoyed a cup of coffee and a scone at this restaurant, both of which were excellent. The scone was especially delicious, one of the best I've had. My companion tried an empire biscuit and also enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
During this visit, we opted for a Brie and Ham Croissant, a Ham and Cheese Quiche with salad, and a couple of coffees (Flat White and Americano). The café was quite busy and tables were scarce. It seemed that some customers were unaware of the benefits of clearing their own table and returning dishes to the counter, as the staff hadn't had a chance to do so during the rush. We saw one customer clearing a table for himself and his wife while she ordered. Fortunately, we managed to find a table just as we placed our order. Our snacks arrived promptly. The croissant was warm and the brie was perfectly melted, although I felt the salad was a bit lacking compared to previous visits. My wife's quiche came with a more generous salad, with a variety of elements. Despite the differences in the salads, both dishes tasted delicious, as did the coffee. Next time, I'll be sure to clarify the salad situation, as it's usually worth having at this café. Overall, it's a nice café with friendly staff and a discount for members of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Our bill came to just under £23.
After a leisurely walk, we found ourselves craving a sandwich and decided to give Dawyck Cafe a try. We waited in line for a bit before ordering two of their special croissants with ham, cheese, and a hint of cranberry. Once we found a table, our croissants were served piping hot and crispy. They turned out to be the best croissants we've had outside of Paris. The warm ham, melted cheese, and tangy cranberry combined perfectly to create a delightful flavor experience. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious and unique the sandwich was, and it's still a topic of conversation for us. Thank you, Dawyck Cafe, for such a wonderful meal!
