The Bull Inn - Wokingham

Delicious, succulent, well proportioned Sunday Roast in a comfortable, idyllic setting, accompanied by good, efficient, polite service. A little pricey maybe, but you obviously pay for the location. Nice pudding too. Thank you.

We booked a table here for lunch and on arrival we struggles to find parking as the car park by the restaurant was full. On entering it took a while to be acknowledged by the staff and shown to our table, but we settled in a lovely room where most of the other tables were taken. We chose the two course lunch menu and enjoyed the soup and fish pie were were nicely served. When we were ready to pay and leave, it again took a while to be noticed by staff they may have been under staffed on the day. Nevertheless, we came away satisfied.

I stopped by for a casual midweek lunch and was underwhelmed by the welcome. Unfortunately, there were no open fires as the chimney hadn't been cleaned. This lack of attention to detail was a red flag for poor management. The lunch bar menu was limited, and my soup bowl was only half full with no bread provided. The Ploughman's lunch consisted of just one type of cheese and sliced bread, rather than the focaccia that was advertised. To top it off, a 12.5% service charge was added to the bill despite the lack of service. In the end, I spent £60 and left feeling disappointed with the overall experience.

This pub has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are excellent, with an open log fire and historic old beams adding to the charm. It's a great spot for a drink. However, the food is significantly overpriced for the portion sizes, and on top of that, there is a 15% service charge which feels like an insult. I witnessed a couple at the next table order a starter of octopus, only to receive a single 7-inch tentacle for £10. The overall quality of the food is decent, but the small portions leave much to be desired. I spent £110 for two people and left feeling hungry, which is never a good sign. Ray, who works behind the bar, does a great job of keeping things running smoothly and the rest of the staff are very attentive. Unfortunately, the food is the weak point of this establishment. My meal came with just nine chips, which speaks volumes. I will likely return for a drink, but I won't be dining here again.
