Bidra med feedbackWe rented a kitchenette for two nights. Owner Jim takes forever to respond to emails, can no longer answer two words on the phone or in person (monosyllabic answers, no WiFi in the room and the restaurant is as fast as a phone line of the 90s (maybe even slower! , place is very old and in need of serious renovation instead of the different color layers, only the leaves were cleaned, the blankets were stinking, very bad price-performance ratio (it was the most expensive booking in a long trip of 2 weeks. You can calculate this type of money only because of the lack of accommodation around Volcanic Park after the 2021 fire (especially in Chester).
Wow. Completely blown away. Not going to lie, came here not expecting much. That added to the experience. The first thing you will notice is how friendly the employees are. You are greeted at the door with a smile and told to take a seat wherever you like. The meals speak for themselves. True small town American cooking and it tastes as good as it seems. I would highly recommend anyone stopping by the area to come in and have a meal at this gem tucked away in Northern California.
We camped at the tent site for 2 nights in Lassen Mineral Lodge and went to the restaurant for breakfast the first morning. We ordered Bacon and Cheese Scramble comes with hash/country potatoes and toast), Biscuits and Eggs with country gravy instead of toast and bacon), eggs platter comes with hash/country potatoes and toast) and french toast. The food was a bit cold as it was served late but tasty. We ordered coffee and tea as well but that was served warm. The place seemed a bit understaffed and the service times were long.
We tried the port ribs and the salmon sandwich. The ribs lacked flavor and had absolutely no smoke to them at all. The sauce was sweet (I prefer savory). The salmon sandwich was very good. The meals come with two sides. It's a lot of food to eat. Prices are moderate.
The Mineral store, what can I say ?..well I love saying hi to Jim every time we go in and I love that there is a place only a few miles away from us up here in the mountains so that I can buy cigarettes or alcohol or milk if we're in a pinch however be prepared to pay quite a bit more than you would if you just went to town. I also love that they have a pretty great selection of seasonal things like sleds, gloves for kids, jackets and even the best selection of long funny socks. The kids love the candy and toys, not unlike what you might get at a gift shop in an amusement park or Turtle Bay
